Wasn't a similar story doing the rounds before he played v Cats.

Haven't a clue if it's what happens nowadays, but in the mid sixties if you signed for a pro club, your signing on fee was split into different parts, so much for signing on, so much for so many 1st team appearances, so much for representing your county and so much for representing your country, thought maybe you'd have known that, as I say I don't know if it's still in practice but really it's the clubs and the players business anyway.

In the mid sixties, that contract was probably not even written down.

Oh it certainly was but I realise now we are talking two separate issues, Shaw has already signed on professionally so the only people that should know about the increments in his contract are him and the club, I was talking about the under 17s and under 19s who played in a pro clubs junior ranks, if they showed plenty of potential they would offer you say for example £250 split into incentives knowing that if you didn't come good it only cost the initial signing on fee, and no other club got you.

Think he said he got away with a better contract because they mistakenly kept him on an AN Other contract when he made it to reserves and first team.

Said he played a couple of years with only a verbal contract I think.

Contracts just weren't thought about in those days like they are now.

I believe it’s true. However how is that a reflection on the club? These deals are common place. Mountains and molehills yet again.

I think the implication is that the club won't play him because of the money.
