| Some of you may know from my postings over the years that I have been a full time carer for my beautiful wife Margaret since she was diagnosed with cancer 3 years ago.
Sadly her condition became acute in June and she passed away last weekend.
A true Hunslet south of the river lass to the end. They breed the men tough down there and the women even stronger.
Ever since her diagnosis she never once complained or worried about herself always about others family and friends alike.
A truely remarkable lady she fought the illness with all her strength and passed away with a cig in her hand and a smile on her face. I am convinced she was dreaming of her beloved Tenerife where she spent many happy weeks enjoying the warm sunshine which she believed helped her to battle on.
This forum has been something of a lifeline to me helping to distract me and to remain in touch with the best game in the world. I played the game till we got married but once the children were old enough I qualified as a coach and we all spent many happy years on the touchlines all over Yorkshire.
As always Margaret (and her girlfriends) joined in with a vengence helping raise the funds and preparing meals for the players washing kits etc etc..
She did relent and started supporting Leeds RL and we had our honeymoon in London watching the great Leeds V Saints final. John Holmes was her favourite player which just proves what great class and taste she had.
Listening to the radio in the car the day after she died this poem was read out and I am sure she sent it, it sums up her feeling perfectly. She wasnt afraid of dying only in losing her dignity.
The Promise of Trees
by Lucy Berry
In flaming colour and umber murmur
of terracotta-rusted glamour
we speak our sunset-streaked vermilion valour:
of wordless dying.
In city streets and ducal parkland,
on urban squares and heath and moor
we make again the promise which we pledged each year before:
that dying is…. nothing
Trust us. This mere one fire failing, solely, one greenness-ailing
is the great-cycle, the grand-sadness of one season’s farewell bidding
phoenix foliage ridding our sturdy selves of another verdant year,
the sloughing, shrugging, shedding of the necessary tear
Trust us; this amber-plumed, ochre pyre
is heart to the promise we give,
that we die and are mourned and are lost;
but live again next year
Rest in Peace my darling till we meet again

| Reads like she lived a lifestyle shared by so much around here. Characters like your Margaret make up what I like about Leeds.
Thanks for sharing this and condolences to yourself and all those who knew your wonderful wife.
May she rest in peace.
