Should there be a revision of the
salary cap to take account of the increase in value of players at a club due to
their development by good coaching? Such a revision should only be available to
their existing club and not be applicable on a transfer to a new club.




As an example, in the final
year of their contract a player could negotiate a contract extension (of more
than one year) including a rise in salary, with up to 25% of a rise in salary
not counting on the salary cap. The targeted age range should be twenty one to
twenty seven. This would encourage player development, encourage player
retention and I believe would increase the size of the player pool. 

I reckon that's a good idea. 

Good idea but we all know that the established clubs would heavily exploit it and that their puppets would allow them to do so.

I think there should be some kind of dispensation put in place for clubs who have nurtured players to become of better quality, and to increase their salary without a penalty against the cap. I do agree that clubs would try to exploit it, but i think some kind of dialogue regarding this should take place.

As I understand it, the salary cap is monitored in real time so this should be sufficient to avoid exploitation of the system I suggested in my previous post. 


The only alternative I can see would be to significantly raise the salary cap. Otherwise we will see an increasing number of players we have developed being poached. Also, currently, when a club is faced with a choice of rewarding a player whose value has increased or using up the remaining cap space to sign another Aussie, the second option is the likely outcome.
