| Quote FC Wembley 08="FC Wembley 08"Not at all, Horne is not a player i rate at all. He doesn't fill me with confidence when his name is on the team sheet and when he returns from an injury i don't think 'Thank god for that, we've missed him' as i would with Tansey, Briscoe, Long, O'Meley, Fitz and many others.........
But the actual point i made was that Calderwood has returned from injury and then been made to sit on the sidelines when 100% fit, then been made to play u20s and frozen out by the club, while Mr Average just walks straight back into the squad and was shiiiiiite!!!'"
How can any player that has been out since February with a 27cm hamstring tear with one reserve game since be anywhere near 100% fit? Prior to the reserve match he was still undergoing a late fitness test...i am not a fan of Agar but from what i have seen of Calders he has made the right decision not to play him yet and as he has cover in this position whats the problem...to suggest he is out of favour is garbage....if he had brought him back and had played like he has in the reserves,' lacking in confidence ' then Agar would have been at fault again so he can't win either way.
As for Horne he was probably brought straight back in out of desparation as there is no half back cover, had adequate cover been available then Horne would have probably played in the reserves as well

So are you actually saying that Agar does like Calderwood but he won't be here next season?

Whether you rate Horne or not, you are in fact judging him on a single performance as reiterated in your last sentence above.
I don't know what's happening with Calderwood any more than you do. We don't even know for sure that he's 100% fit. It's possible it may have to do with his injury, or it may be something more sinister. I'd say that Horne was put straight in because of the HB situation except that our genius coach didn't use him there. Personally I'd have preferred that he had a run in the U20's to being thrown on in an unfamiliar position. I'm not going to have a go at him because of something the coach did though.

No. He's saying that Agar doesn't [idislike[/i him. There is a difference.

Desparation gets you nowhere, it makes the problem worse!! We could put fit players in half back positions which would do better than an 'unfit' Horne. He was a major weak link in our side on Saturday and that proves the desparation tag to have blown up in Agar's face. Horne has to be in the u20s this week, do you think he will be??

Horne didn't play HB. He played hooker.

Horne has been average for a long time now 3yrs at least (when you can get him on the field). I agree with you about playing him out of position but clearly our 6 and 7 situation wasn't that bad if we didn't put our 'first choice' 6 there, so we shouldn't have risked it.. And no, i'm not basing it on one performance. check my posts. You'll come back with the point that IMO Richard Horne is no more than a outside squad player on an international wage. But opinions are what this board is here for, that's mine and you can have yours. We posts on here, have a light chat about it then in the end decide that i was right and we move on.

I know, i was just speaking in general... a fit player who usually plays a similar role is better than an unfit player in his actual role!

Your pitching yourself up there with Brian Clough with closing comments like that. Pi$$ed myself when I heard him say that all those years ago.

He was playing for short spells in a unfamiliar position on sat....like i have already said if Agar had another halfback to choose from ie Longy then Horney would have had a run out in the reserves but he hasn't so i think he will be at HB in the 1st team on thursday as there is very few options available......but Horne was not responsible for the poor performance on sat and was not the only under performer out there at least he had an excuse to be rusty unlike some of the others.

I agree with the general point. I'm not a fan of rushing players back or playing them when not 100% fit - I think it leads to more problems both short and long term. I understand that occasionally this is necessary but I don't like it. Ironically I think that Horne is a player who has suffered from this more than most in the past, and some of his recent fitness issues may be a direct result.
Regarding Calderwood I seem to remember something about him feeling some tenderness in his calf following his first run in the U20's. Given the severity of the injury it's possible that not playing him on Saturday was justified on grounds of not wanting to risk a setback.
