| Steve Folkes is being mentioned as a possible candidate by a lot of the press.

| Quote Cruncher="Cruncher"Well you guys know him better than we do. What would your opinion of that be?'"
Did a great job at Saints. Ok, he was maybe lucky to coach the 06 team, which was probably our best in the SL era, but still took over the turmoil left by Millward, against the supporters wishes, and moulded Saints back into a trophy winning team. I have no doubt he would be a success at Wigan also, and as a Saints speccie, would prefer the thought of facing a Wigan team coached by Wane than Anderson.

| There's no way on God's green earth that Anderson will get the job over Wane.

| Madge- a little disappointing as I would have liked a bit of stability for the next couple of years. However, I don't blame him, he has got to do whatever he thinks is best for his career. I do await with interest the reaction of the MM "Fanboy" club that we have on these boards though.....
Wane- I geniuinely don't know if he can cut it as first team coach or not. He has had a good record in the reserves, but the first team is a completely different boiling vessel of aquatic life. I remember reports from when he was at school that he wasn't the brightest button in the box, and this is a tad worrying.
IL- Looks like MM deal was a 2+1 rather than 3 years. He kept that one quiet. I think he will appoint Wane as it is the easy option and will appease the fans. That said, he is now in a very tough position, and I don't envy him one bit. I think we will have to support him on this one.

No thank you.
He's a little bit too good at losing Grand Finals for my liking.

Wane should be given a chance. He has graduated through the systems at U18, U20/21 and assistant coach.
I would expect he will be given a 2+1 deal which will allow both the club and himself to see if he up to the job.
If he does get it then it will be very interesting to see who he picks as his assistant.

That's the key issue for me regarding Wane. I think we'd be prudent to employ from outside the club on this one rather than promoting a relatively inexperienced Radlinski, Deacon, Fletcher....

An interesting and thought provoking post.
I concur that Sean Wane whilst obviously ticking all the right boxes isn't up to graduate level in the 'brain department'. This is one of the reasons in my opinion, why the Ozzies continually outstrip us, as all their spokesmen/coaches and 'game planners' are very articulate individuals.

From that story it sounds like Madge had a 3 year deal but IL agreed to release him a year early.
Interesting that he is keeping a house here and may well return.

I must admit to being pleased to hear that.
By the sounds of it he's gone early as part of some kind of gentleman's agreement. Some won't like, but others might say it makes sense to keep someone like Maguire sweet. Maybe we get something in return - like first-refusal on his services should he ever decide to come back over.
Who knows, but this seems to be in keeping with IL's style. He doesn't strike me as the sort to fall out with people unless it's absolutely unavoidable.

It may also help us to develop a partnership with SSR for player exchanges etc.
