| Yes we went in camper van from Warrington via Dover and then tried to avoid toll roads but this is not recommended as it would have taken us a lifetime.
The camper is an old 1982 VW T25 and we travelled at 50 ish mph all the way, it was a good laugh and we all enjoyed it but jeeeez its a long long way especially at 50mph.
Ironically just as we were approaching Perpignan a 'Harry's Taxi' flew past us, if we had known they went that far we would have ordered one!!
Seriously if you have a nice big car like a people carrier with air con and good fuel consumption and can share the driving then have a go but don't underestimate the distance, whatever you travel in it will cost a kings ransom in fuel.
Good luck.............

| Did it 2 years ago, and doing it again this year. Leaving after Wigan game, ferry Sat 8.30am 2 nights in La Rochelle, 6 nights hotel in St Cyprian, then drive to Antibes 6 nights Caravan. Then back to Calais, unfortunately will miss Saints Match as I am sure it will be changed to the Saturday for Sky. Husband drives all the way.

| wow i'm impressed, i drove to paris and back when PSG were in superleague, it's exactly 1,000 miles round trip from Leigh to warrington then to paris and back crossing dover calais! i set my millage gauge to zero prior to setting off and it rolled back to zero as i pulled onto my drive!
nb. it is important to take into account we got lost several times in paris.

| I have before, and will be again (although it's a [imere[/i5 hours for me) I will give some tips however:
If you can afford it get ferry out of Portsmouth (to Caen with Brittany Ferries or to Le Havre with LD lines) it gives you a much needed period of rest and cuts a fair distance out. I did Lyon to Widnes last August without a hotel stop by doing this (I did have a cabin on the ferry though).
The exchange rate has improved over the past month. 1 GBP is now buying 1.21 at todays prices. Diesel is 1.11 EUR a litre if purchased from a supermarket which makes it less than £1 a litre so run down your tank at Portsmouth and fill it at the Carrefour by the viaduct in Caen or the Auchan off the road out of Le Havre.
If you are looking for an overnight stop, Lyon (I am biased), Nimes and Montpellier are all nice places to have a stop over with plenty to see and wil leave a drive of 5/3/2 hours for the following day.
Use a credit card/debit card at tolls, it saves queuing. Sadly you have to be a French resident/bank a/c holder to get a 't' toll pass.
I would offer to help accomadate any stop-overs in my area, but naturally, I won't be at home to do so!
Oh the 'bridge in the sky' isn't a Beatles ripp off about in-form Wire Centres but called the Millau bridge, which is a slight detor (add an hour) but is very very impressive.
If I can help further PM me, just don't ask me to speak French for you as I am still rubbish at it.
