The NFL has had sudden death overtime for years and there talking about changing it from 'any' score ending the game to a touchdown to prevent it becoming a kicking fest. Another idea is that the game can only end when both teams have had at least one possession (to stop a coin toss being the determinative factor).



I imagine player safety is a key concern. It's a dangerous game after 1 minute, not going to get any safer after 80 odd.

It's a far better system than the RU penalty kicking competition farce.

The first golden point in the UK was the NL2 Play off game in 2006 Swinton beat Celtic Crusaders 27-26 at Brewery Field , Chris Hough dropped a goal to win it , and that was after 20 minutes of ET as well when their were no points at all -



The players were out on their feet after 100 minutes so going straight to Golden point after 80 is much better all round in my opinion

I agree that the Union penalty shoot-out was a bit of a joke, but to be honest, no more farcical than the 'Golden Point' that we had last week, which will just lead to the side with the best drop kicker inevitably winning the match.

I reckon we should bring this in, maybe after 10 minutes of Golden Point extra time in cup matches.



Would certainly add drama to some cup matches. The only problem is, most league players are such bad goalkickers they could end up playing until midnight.

WOULD be fun if they removed one player evey 5 minutes after full time until a try was scored!
