OK - not read all of the posts on this thread, but overall they are very positive about the appointment.



IMO



Did Lowes have to 'go'? Yes



Have we replaced him with the right man? We've replaced him with the best available at this time, but I have my serious doubts as to whether it'll work out. (England debacle in the World Cup). Ideally the 'world class coach' would have been brought in at the end of the 08 season.



How will it work out with Lowes in the camp? The players didn't seem to gell with Jimmy overall. I can see there being some festering issues here. It's a very unusual situation and to be honest it reminds of the situation when Anderson went and Plange took over - he was on a hiding to nothing.



What should we expect this year? There will be a 'new boy' bounce so we'll win a few but I'll be surprised if we finish higher than I predicted at the start of the season - which was 6th.



So overall I can't say I'm overawed, but I'll go with a half full glass rather than half empty.

I still think the full glass is still some way off.

Brilliant news. Well done to the club. Now its the turn of the fans to, once again, get behind the team, starting on Sunday.

A good appointment from the board. Hopefully this will, in time, be the start of us finally fulfilling our potential.



Sadly there was a mass expectation generated 2 weeks before the season started based on nothing at all really, other than we'd all missed watching wire for a few months. I'd imagine expectation will go through the roof with us having appointed a proven coach. But it will take us ta while to see the benefits.



Smith has many great qualitites as a coach, but as I mentioned last week, hiw style is completely the opposite of Lowes. Lowes wanted the Bradford of yesteryear - 5 drives & a kick. Smiths teams are based on agile, ball playing forwards, quick playe the balls. It'll take us about 5-6 weeks of unlearning everything we've done pre-season before we see the difference.

Would imagine one or two players have bunny bums about this appointment. Think there may be a bit more restriction on the good life until they earn it under Mr Smith.

I'm suprised by that. I could understand bbc shows that have nothing or a tenuios (sp) link to RL but this particular post has lots of relevance to this board.
