Quick question:



I've just been watching the archive Challenge Cup games on the BBC website. One of them was the 2003 semi final between Leeds and Saints, with Leeds winning in [iextra time[/i, not golden point. My question, when was extra time abolished and we started using golden point?

Says when it was first used but not when the rule was changed.

Not too sure....Personally though, I'm not overkeen on it.



From the two examples so far in the Challenge Cup, it just seems to diminish the game into a contest of who gets the first drop girl.....Rugby League often criticises Rugby Union, yet the 'chase' for the first drop girl seems to be a very Union-style trait, so it seems strange we have created this very negative system.



Whilst Saturday was exciting, how much longer of the '5 drives up the middle, followed by the failed drop attempt' would we have had, before it would have started to get tedious??



I must admit though, I look forward to the day when somebody shows a little individuality, and actually feigns the drop attempt, and takes on the tiring defence with a bit of footwork, or a chip over the top of the onrushing defence.

I watched that again the other night - what a stunning game / occasion that was. I remember watching that game on a running machine in Total Fitness - nearly fell off a few times.

a better system would be to win the game by at least 3 points.



So unless you're 3 points ahead the game just keeps going.

would be good but it renders drop kicks and penalties useless

On Saturday by the third attempt at a drop I was screaming for Briers to chip it towards the corner for King. I'm sure it would have been so unexpected that even a half decent kick would have seen King walk in.

How often has a golden point come from a Try?

Never. Considering Fax v Cas was the first..............

Never even in the NRL...?
