| karetaker:Wires71:The Speculator:
I think that when we appoint our next head coach - whenever that might be - our directors first need to acknowledge the sheer scale of the task, and understand the experience and strength of character required to tackle it. It's a job that breaks coaches. Instead of pretending that we are still a big player in Super League, the directors need to be completely open and honest about the inherent problems facing this club, and appoint a coach who can put forward a convincing, detailed strategy for meeting those challenges. Stop being starstruck by big names, stop looking for quick fixes, stop thinking that social media clicks are more important than turnstile clicks. I usually try to remain level-headed and optimistic about Wire, but it is pretty difficult to be that way at the moment. I am genuinely worried about the future of the club, because I sense we are approaching a tipping point where a lot of long-time fans have just about had enough and are drifting away in disillusionment. I'm not talking about the usual "that's it, I've had it with Wire" that comes in the heat of the moment after most bad defeats. I am referring to that sad realisation, when game day comes around, that you'd probably rather do something else with your time than watch Wire and be let down again. That's when it gets serious. I think there was a cautious sense of optimism when Burgess took over, but here we are again, down among the deadbeats and with uncertainty and rumours abounding. As for easyWire's question, I would say that McNamara is a coach of the right calibre and experience, so I wouldn't be upset if he was 'next man up', as Burgess used to say. But whoever it is, we really need to get the appointment right this time. The consequences of botching it again don't bear thinking about.
Good post. The trouble is the board have gone on record to say they now demand more involvement in RL matters following Powell's exit. I reckon this is half the problem, together with some key positions in the club being filled by people who are clearly out of their depth. In hindsight, we should have probably backed Powell to the hilt instead of turning on him. He was up against this dysfunctional board and sulking players. He didn't help himself mind. The problem is the sulking players you refer to had the ear of the board. Yep cosy chats in the boozers of Stockton Heath with Mr Lomax saying how cruel and mean Powell was being stopping them running their own businesses and being excused from training. A board that is far too close to the players to be objective.

| Monaghan (Michael) was also famous for being in a huge grump after any loss due to actually giving a toss. Like Pitt in Moneyball he hated losing more than he enjoyed winning - we could do with some of that attitude.Don’t think you’d get a shrug of the shoulders and a ‘we were tired’ nonsense after a pitiful defeat from M Monaghan.

Michael Monaghan even did a WG interview where he talks about hating losing. https://www.warringtonguardian.co.uk/news/11444702.michael-monaghan-i-cant-stand-losing/

| You need to follow the lead of leeds and Hull who have both appointed experienced NRL coaches but also new DOR's who actually know what they're doing recruitment wise, and then let them get on with their jobs with no interference - easy at Hull where the owner is the father in law of the DOR (although now CEO but still doing the DOR job).
No surprise both clubs are on an upward trajectory.
Appointing burgess was always going to be a big gamble, which rarely pay off

In contrast we have an inexperienced rookie head coach, an inexperienced DoR (who has no pro RL experience outside of Warrington), and a CEO that started life as a volunteer player welfare officer.

| Snaggletooth:Every person considered a winner has a personality/behavioral trait and the British are steeped in history with the straight and honest batter, we just don't take to cocky roguish types. Give me an out and out winner every time. To get us on a winner status pay Wane a kings ransome and get uncle Eamon as CEO. Its wild i know, I'd love to see the difference Problem is, neither of those people give a stuff about us.
