Hi Damienc,
Let me make sure I understand you correctly; you'd keep Tai and Powell but let Currie go? Have you considered a role in our recruitment team?
Williams, incidentally, is not a great player. He's a very good one when he chooses to be - but that has been seldom in his Wire career. The last decent performance from a Wire halfback was v Saints. A certain Mr Currie.
In 2025 we have regressed to 2005. Same lack of professionalism, same lack of backbone and same chance of winning the GF - none.
Sack the coach by all means, then sack his assistants, the recruitment team and the CEO. Anything else is deckchairs/Titanic.
We won a hell of a lot more games in 2005, we had better players who put in shed loads more effort, and 10 times more backbone with pride in the club and just got on with it all. We're currently NOTHING like we were in 2005.........unfortunately. 2005 we finished 4th, one point behind Bradford in 3rd. We could only dream of finishing in one of those positions this year or in the next few. We are rotten to the core.

Well we've been outbid by York Knights for the services of literally our only decent forward. And are "looking at options to strengthen our pack for next season" so don't even have a replacement lined up to have had reason to let him go.
As I've stated if the numbers I've heard are true then I really don't blame Vaughan for signing and I don't blame our board for matching their silly numbers. He'll be a big loss. The last time we were consistently at the top end of the table, we had FOUR quality, decent size props Morley Carvell Wood Hill. Next season, Gawd 'elp us Chambers (stop laughing at the back), has a LOT of work on his hands.

That Daryl Powell looks a good coach. We should go after him? Anyone know where Wakey got him from?
Tesco on Winnwick Road after he got dumped outside the HJ stadium. Daryl Powell, you say?Isn't that the fella who brought his USELESS mates from Castleford, and took us 15 minutes from relegation?.....or was that his identical twin? Sorry I must have missed the great job Burgess is doing this season. Bit weird how Powell's had success at every other club though, isn't it? Almost like he wasn't the issue. Success is relative though isn’t it. If Powell makes6th at Wakefield he gets a statue and the big fella gives him credit in the media. If he finished 6th here it’s squeaking into the play offs and another dud season. At Cas, where he was long enough to make a real change, he finished 1st, 3rd, 4th (twice) but finished with 7th and 8th positions. Yes they made finals, and won a hub cap, and that is successful for Castleford but that saw Price chopped here, and he won a cup. I get that some clubs are afforded wiggle room as they are the lowest spenders, but that’s because the clubs are badly run. It’s a capped sport at the top, we play on the same grass, the players are grown, professional sportsmen. Powell’s success has an asterisk. The same level of “success” got him sacked in his second season having completely gutted the club from top to bottom, with literally a handful of players surviving that period. He’s having the year of his life and he’s 4 points ahead of us who are having a shocking season without half of our star players for much of the middle of the year. There was zero, ZERO, evidence that he could do the job here. We were really fortunate to survive that first year. You don't give Powell much credit, some points in reply. 1. Success is indeed relative, so are consequences. Powell was sacked with his Warrington side higher placed in the league than we find ourselves currently and with 3 more wins than we currently have! 2. Price was here for the duration of his 4 year contract, ergo not chopped. Arguably he should have been chopped earlier though. 2 home playoff defeats should have been enough. 3. Our expectations are so dulled now that squeaking into the playoffs in 6th is the stretch target currently. Hard to argue we have high expectations. 4. The cap does not stop the wealthy teams spending £350K+ each on 3 x marquee players, our hundreds of £K on facilities that the poorer sides just cannot afford. It's not a level playing field by any means. 5. Powell is a far more experienced and accomplished coach than Burgess. He won a LLS and made a GF with an unfashionable, financially poor club. Both superior coaching achievements than 2 x CCF runner up. 6. Powell was criticised for his recruitment of past players but nothing as poor as compared to the recruitment that Sam has overseen for 2025. Whatever went wrong at Warrington for Powell, is happening again this season under a different coach. Stop talking sense. I sort of get that some people resent Powell for the way it ended here, however even his biggest critic cannot deny he's obviously a damn competent SL coach. A lot better than the one we currently employ. I guess if people cannot see the only anomaly of Powell's coaching career is his time with us and put 2+2 together, then that's on them.

| It’s not an anomaly to miss the play offs for a Powell team though. It’s an anomaly for a post-Smith Warrington team to miss play offs though. Smith got sacked, Powell got another chance, and failed again. With his own team.
Now people will be anti-Burgess and anti-Powell and that’s fine. But his time here was an abject failure. Kicked out all the “bad apples” and still failed to deliver.
This year leaves a lot to be desired, but last year and this years cup run is far superior than any single performance under Powell, who never beat a big team with us, let alone got us into conversations about winning anything.
Sam might not be the answer, but of the past failures, Smith and Price both did so much more without ever going through the complete collapse of 2022. Unmitigated disaster, with only Thewlis to point to as a player that improved under Powell.

Today's winner. Why on God's good earth, are we getting dewy eyed over a fella that almost destroyed us, is beyond me. What's next? James Lowes. Was he all that bad?
