I’m gutted for Salford. A good club who have made the best of limited resources. People won’t like it in the short term, but it’s prime for a merger of Oldham, Rochdale and Salford. Lots of grass roots across that belt, and if they can connect with the fan base, they could rebuild stronger.
Salford's ground is quite a bit closer to the HJ than it is to Rochdale, maybe we should merge with them and form West Manchester.
I know you are being a bit tongue in cheek but throwing their lot in with Swinton would have made more sense at the time they moved from the Willows. Afterall both teams are IN the city of Salford so would have benefited equally from any input from the council.
Maybe as a joint force they could have agreed a better location for the stadium whether this would have been enough i doubt it as they have had relative success recently on the field but support still remains at 'hard core' levels home and away. Although they reckon that there is sustainable income once they have a proper interest in the stadium selling pies, pints and advertising space 'overlooking' Barton Bridge on the M60
I get that we wouldn't have been happy with a forced merger with a lesser club such as Widnes, or St Helens, but in Salford's case the alternative is looking increasingly like just being able to fulfill their contractual obligations aided and abetted by other clubs, the RFL and the council before dropping down to the Championship.
Very sad
