| Without wanting to be overly critical, how many other teams would manage as low a crowd as that for a challenge cup quarter final?

| Quote SIMMSFAXTEDDY="SIMMSFAXTEDDY"shocking crowd. the excuses dont wash with me.
a true fan would attend regardless of opposition, wendyball on sky, entrance fee etc!
this crowd shows how few 'true' hudds fans have unfortunatley!
hell, i watched the Hudds game in a pub in Halifax, and sat behind us was a 'fan' in a hudds shirt who had been to the Shay instead! classic!
the problem at the minute at Hudds is that they only get decent SL crowds because most their 'fans' paid peanuts for the season ticket, and it just so happens that at the minute you have a good team and are doing well in all comps.
what will happen to your crowds when Davey gets fed up of giving away season tickets for nowt and when the team hits a bit of a sticky phase?!
Saying bye bye to Brown, this could happen sooner than you think.
Congrats on the SF though, i will be supporting Wire as i wanna be in a decent crowd for my annual Wembley trip.
I got my Wembley ticket for a tenner!!!! bargain i thought!
but then i read some posts from hudds fans on here and as a Fax season ticket holder i maybe shouldv'e got one free??!!

Out of interest which of these reached the level deemed "acceptable" by the worthies on this thread? And what is acceptable?
Fev v Cas - 4165
Widnes v saints - 3069
Keighley v Wire - 2196
Bulls v Dons - 3210
Wigan v Cru - 4198
Fev v Wigan - 4082

| Quote Jake the Peg="Jake the Peg"It's what you get when you practically give away entry to the ground for the season. No one values it'"
This.
I'd ask the Huddersfield Giants board just what "value" they have placed on a season of rugby league at the Galpharm. This is a club that has the cheapest season tickets in the league and has regularly given out free tickets (or at least, 'free to the end user' tickets, before people point out that they've been paid for by sponsors) to notable fixtures. How much does the Giants board think that watching the Giants is actually worth?
The same question applies to the fans and the people of Huddersfield - how much do you think watching the Giants is worth? How does that compare to other leisure activities in and around Huddersfield? Do you think that you are paying a fair price to watch the Giants? That's not a dig or a criticism, it just goes some way to potentially answering this problem.
Personally, I think that the Giants are under-selling their product and that their support base is either one that isn't prepared to pay the 'going rate' (because they don't perceive it as value) or is one that has simply got used to "cheap" rugby. Either way, the Giants (and others) now find it very difficult to convince punters that the actual value of a match is £20 (or whatever the gate price is) rather than whatever they've paid with their heavily subsidised season ticket when the time comes to charge for cup or PO tickets.
This isn't a Giants specific problem per se and it's not exclusively a dig at them. After all, after every round of the cup, at the Magic weekend, at every round of the play-offs and at internationals, we get the "there should be free / cheap tickets" argument, but I think the Giants example is the most obvious. Whilst I appreciate that RL isn't played in the most affluent parts of the world, particuarly in the current climate, it should probably be asked whether we under-selling the sport or whether it is just that RL (either at club level or game-wide) is followed by people who think that the idea of paying more 'tuppence ha'penny' for an evening's entertainment is unreasonable?

Have we ascertained which were all SL quarter finals at the home of the second-placed team yet?
Perhaps those attendances were so low because the clubs were big meanies and didn't include free tickets with their fifty quid season passes.

You want to compare those games against your TABLE TOPPING TEAMS, ALL SUPER LEAGUE GAME, IN THE CUP QF????
Low crowds in early rounds, sometimes trans-Pennine on a Friday night, cannot be used to justify the apalling crowd at Giants this week.
Compare it like for like. Not good, eh?

| Top 2 side at home in a QF with Wembley at stake against a team from the same division is hard to compare with Wigan v Crusaders, but you would hope that a club of the calibre of Hudds has more than 2500 die hards to fall back on when times get tough, again.

| Or we can compare say
an all super league tie between a newly promoted club and one of the most successful teams of the modern era playing what is supposedly a bit of a derby game
a game played between what are supposed to be two of the most deeply died in the wool RL towns that are just streets apart fighting out an ancient derby
Or a game where (again) one of the most successeful teams in SL are playing another local team in a game not on TV
Or since the last poster mentioned Wigan Cru - the top team in the country, current holders, (and better supported than the Giants) fighting for a place in the next round could only get a small amount more
etc etc
in fact if we factor in London would have attended with very few fans (no fault of theirs, and not a slight on them at all) it actually stacks up fairly evenly.
Even if it doesnt - I still havent had an answer as to what constitues acceptable
Or is the answer "not Huddersfield's attendance, no matter what it is"?

| Fartown attendances this year so far compared to same games last year (day played in brackets):
Widnes: 2011 - n/a. 2012(8869).
Wire: 2011(Fri) - 7224. 2012(Sat) - 8184. {+960, +13%}

Salford: 2011(Tue) - 6042. 2012(Fri) - 6988. {+946, +16%}
Hull FC: 2011(Sun) - 8822. 2012(Mon) - 9950. {+1128, +13%}
Average: 2011 - 7091. 2012(so far) - 8352. {+1261, +18%}
Not bad in a recession, pretty good growth. Still the bigger crowds of Wigan, Leeds and Bradford at home to come. No-one from Huddersfield is trying to claim our attendances are fantastic, or what a table topping side deserves. What they are though is growing, after nigh on 40 years of dross and near bankruptcy. From little acorns...

Nice attempt at diversion...but this thread is about the CC game, not games where Giants fans got a season ticket in a lucky bag from the local shop.

 When you have a constructive point to make then do come back. I thought a bit of perspective and rational debate might be worth a try after nearly 20 pages, but ho hum.
As I alluded to in my previous post, no-one is trying to say Huddersfield have world-beating crowds. And yes, I agree, the CC game was appalling. No excuses can make a good reason for it, it was an awful crowd. However, it is one attendance in 2012. We also took over 1000 to Catalans, shall we talk about that?

It maybe would be 'pretty good growth' if season tickets weren't being virtually given away.
