Quote Bully_Boxer="Bully_Boxer"Absolutely agree. I fear some supporters just want to see Macca gone without even considering where that would leave us. We have no respected or experienced assistant to take over in a caretaker capacity. I'd love to see Brian Smith himself back at Odsal for a few years to re-build some solid foundations. We may be in the minority but I believe that McNamara has the knowledge to be a good coach. Whether he is able to coach that knowledge or recruit the right players to implement his idea's is debatable.
A few year under someone like Smith may just be what he needs to get his career back on track. Despite the bravado in the press from Macca, I do think he is beginning to feel the pressure.'"
Sounds as reasonable a post on the subject as we are likely to see.
Been thinking while I was down the gym this morning (as you do...)(and sorry Anarkik, but can't change how I am) and just about every young British coach, promoted to head coach quite early, has struggled and either failed or is failing. To Macca add Agar, Lowes, Sharp, Minibus, Harrison, Smith (Wakey), Cullen - even, Kelly...as examples. So far Brian Mac looks to be still above the waterline, but success stories are pretty thin on the ground.
What this seems to me to mean is that if you want success you probably have to go recruit an antipodean (and even then success is not assured, as we have seen with the likes of Walters (so far), the other Sharp, Lean Dance, Kiss and others at London, various at Wigan...). Which is obviously not a five minute job.
The other worrying trend is that, after all these years of SL, we still seem unable to produce much in the way of successful young British coaches. Something across the game just isn't working?
