We seem to be established that Brian Mac's strengths are in fitness work, training, and discipline. There may be more to him than that, but that's the assumption at the moment.



The other main functions of the coach are player recruitment, and tactics. Hetherington will be in charge of the first under the Leeds set-up, and we seem to be in need of an assitant to be in charge of the latter. The problem is that the "tactics coaches" are usually the head-coaches and the "training coaches" are usually the number 2s. I can't imagine an experienced and intelligent coach (like Murray, for example) taking an assistant's position with a head-coach's skillset, to work under a head-coach with an assistant coach's skillset.



So we'll likely either get someone untested or with little experience, or someone who has a replica of McDermott's skills, neither of which are ideal.

My own choice would be an experienced back to help bring on what we currently have.

McDermott said he wanted someone to challenge his ideas and not be a McDermott mark 2.

I can not see any overseas coach coming to work as an understudy.

But it might be tempting to get an up and coming assistant coach from Oz to work with him.

Who do Canterbury have in their ranks seeing as we have teamed up with them?

Jim Dymock and Tony Grimaldi are familiar names on their roster.

Rumour from over the hill (Lancashire) is that Jimmy Lowes could be our new assistant coach !!

I don't buy it. He seems happy working for TS, and didn't really like Leeds when he played for us (common knowledge around Hunslet). He then got pushed out to our biggest rivals (at the time) and went public many times with how he felt about Leeds after that.



To say I would be surprised would be an understatement.

Thats what I said to the Wire supporter and would tend to agree with you !! , but he said it came from a source within the club !!

I'd say not generally.

But why would a No2 in Oz want to come over here to be a No2 & if it's somebody from there who's not proven doesn't that make it an even bigger gamble?

Very Good points O.F i'm sure GH and Brian have people in mind and hopefully it'll be sorted sooner rather than later because pre-season starts in a couple of weeks and i thibnk we need as much time as poss to get the new set up sorted and settled in.

In the Hugh McGahan 'Director Of Football' role ?

GH is effectively the director of football isn't he?



If its a skills coach you're after, there are a lot of very talented young coaches here who wouldn't be household names but could probably do a very good job under a head coach. I'd certainly also want to get someone in who could really help the Academy lads develop.

We are after 2 coaches both to assist the head coach and 1 of them to also over-see the u20's.

Such as a Stuart Wilkinson or a John Bastian for example, both of whom Leeds were short-sighted enough not to retain in favour of a "jobs for retiring players" philosophy?

They both left for better contracts and in Bastiens case he wanted to stay with TS and he knew Wire were going after him when he took the job.

SW was also getting frustrated at Leeds and felt it was time to move on.
