Sal Paradise:
Big city equidistant from Manchester and Sheffield and nothing else close - Newcastle in the north and Birmingham in the south. Huge catchment area - no competition for fans
Kinnear suggested Leeds are 7th biggest club in England in terms of selling jerseys.
There is the legacy from the Revie era when Leeds had one of the best club sides in Europe.
Indeed, the reach of the fanbase is huge across the North and there's plenty of fans further south too.
Ive been of the opinion that the reason Leeds do so well in television viewership isn't just the Leeds fanbase, its the other teams who despise Leeds and want "anyone but Leeds" to prevail.
This is also a hang over from the Revie era I reckon, its culturally imbedded across the country that everyone outside of the fanbase or local area "hates" Leeds.
