| Quote Officeboy="Officeboy"I despair. If this forum were a pub and the posters were customers having a discussion at the bar, and I walked in, after listening for 10 minutes I'd walk out again and never go back in.
This thread contains not one ounce of support for the people who run 'your' Club, who have no doubt taken the decision they did in the best interests of it, and - especially given that the Chairman is quite an expert in legal matters - with lawful reasons.
Of course Stanley's going to be advised by his agent to challenge it - he wants money, but the RFL can't simply overturn something because it would be an opportunity to have a pop at Halifax! A lot of people on here seem to have serious persecution complexes - get some therapy people!
The sad thing for me is not that 'Stanley will tell his friends not to come' (
), but that our relationship with David Howes may be strained, and falling out with agents is far worse than falling out with players.
And... when are people going to realize that we haven't a cat in hell's chance of getting a franchise next round anyway not because the RFL hate us, but simply because we're not ready for it, couldn't compete in it, and it could kill off our Club once and for all.'"
I guess i should come back in here as i was the one that started this thread.
Yes we know that the club maybe doing what is best for the club in the end and Stan may challenge it. my point is though.
Just because they are doing it for the good of the club doesn't mean the reputation of club is going to be any less affected and after the challenge cup incident we needed to stay out of the spotlight for the rest of the season, that does not mean i am saying we should have just kept a player we couldnt afford just to protect the image of the club, maybe there was a better way to go about things, it tells me that what ever the problem was it was serious because it could'nt wait till the end of the season, we had him not too long but we only actually let him go 5 or 6 weeks from the end f the season, surely if the club could they would have found a way to get to the end of the season and not agree to the 2nd year.
now the reputation of the club has been effected this season with a couple of inncidents, as for the Franchise, Widnes will be selected FACT, the RFL will be looking for reasons why Halifax and Leigh should'nt get it, for me Halifax have given the RFL all the fire power they needed to deny us, now you might think that these points dont have much to do with it. it gives the RFL the impression that.
A. the club didnt check to see whether the player was cup tied, the player didnt mention it either,
b. the club isnt very organised and cant control the finances, IF indeed money was a small issue, not the main issue.

| If an inability to control finances was a significant factor then the likes of Hull KR and Crusaders would be as good as relegated.
Some of the other clubs may not stand up to detailed scrutiny in this area either.

| I don't doubt the sincerity and good intentions of those that have run the club past or present. Sadly that sincerity and those good intentions have not prevented some major howlers. In this instance, however, I would expect Messrs Steele and Bonfield to have ticked all the boxes so we should win the case but it doesn't stop Stanley Gene having a go.

| What a horrid little insight this thread has become...
Defensive or what!?
Who selects and employs the people on the payroll. Who prepares and proposes, who manages projects, where does the vision become a plan.
Its not the fans last time i checked, but they are an integral part. The Club can have no hard luck or best intentions about it. It goes with the territory.
Good luck tonight, looking forward to it.

| hard to fall out with agents as it all comes down to money in my opinion. offer a player more n the bigger cut for them. as in football, the place would be a lot better without them.

| Oh well, we'll just have to move on, again. These things happen in life, we only have ourselves to blame.
The PR is not good for the club, regardless of whether people are doing their best behind the scenes or not.
We're not ready for Super League, this is pretty clear, but then again i dont think a lot of the SL Clubs are doing anything other than treading water, so we haven't really pushed on as we could have.
I cant help but feel that Widnes taking a step back have really stolen a march on the competition, I applaud them for this, our decision to go down the route we have and subsequent problems that have developed, unfortunately lay at our door and our door alone. Focusing on younger players and being realistic about our ambitions are long over due, signing people at the end of their careers was a bad move, but its done now. The best thing we can do now is win this dam comp and start to rebuild the infrastructure and squad from a firm base with youth, sustainability and greatly improved PR the focus for our growth. We need to become a friendly, family and community club asap..
Theres plenty of talent in this town, thats the only fact we need to remember going forward.

| If Widnes get a franchise next time around in my opinion it will be as big a disgrace as Celtic last time. Out of all the Championship clubs there is only one category where they are the clear leaders; attendances and even then they operate at less than 40% capacity of the ground.
Their finances are one of the worst in the league, their turnover massive but their profit small. They have gone bust in the last three years and the only reason they exist is due to a money man.
They are sandwiched in-between two of the top teams in SL at the moment.
Their only achievement was the NL Cup Final and they were carried by the loan players they had.
Their supposed strong youth system is producing players that are getting beat almost every week in the Championship. Second rate Saints and Wigan players are keeping the majority of them out of the squad. If they did get into SL I am sure they would buy a team but how would that be any different to Celtic or Catalans?
I know we also suffer from all these issues but nobody is calling us dead certs for a franchise!
