GAME: Riversiders v Burtonwood Bridge, Wednesday 29th August
After a few weeks break due to cancelled fixtures we are back in action this week with a midweek floodlit game against Burtonwood Bridge.

This fixture was originally scheduled for May but due to heavy rain the fixture was cancelled. These sides have only met once in the clubs history in last years Interim season with the Riversiders taking a 26-24 win. Another close contest is expected.

KO is 715pm at Wigan St Judes - the bar will be open during and after the game.

Players meet 6pm
Summer BBQ and Fundraiser
This year’s summer fundraiser will be held at The Silver Tally on Saturday 25th August.

As usual the event is for all players, friends and family to get together to help raise funds to help with the running costs of the club. And also in true Riversiders fashion have a good drink whilst doing so!!

We have picked this date as the Riversiders do not have a game and Wigan have been knocked out of the Challenge cup!! So hopefully we shall get a good turn out!!

Invite your friends, family and partners to join us for a fun day!!

The Challenge Cup Final will be shown at 230pm, and the BBQ will be fired up mid afternoon! The guys at the Silver Tally have really been behind us in our first year of sponsorship and are looking forward to hosting our annual summer event.

We have our usual top quality raffle with some of the best prizes available in Rugby League!

RSVP and lets have a great day!!
RESULT: Riversiders 18 Newton Storm 34
A good effort and determination wasnt enough for the Riversiders against a well drilled Newton Storm.

Newton raced into a 16-0 lead, only for the Riversiders to fight back to make the score 16-12 at half time.

The second half started much as the same as the first for the Riversiders with Newton taking control early.

Next up an away trip to early pace setters Accrington Panthers.
RESULT: Riversiders 76 Saddleworth Rangers A 10
AT LAST!! A complete performance earned the Riversiders first win of the 2012 NWML Division 4 season.

We have been saying that once we hit out straps that we will be a tough team to beat and we would look to move up the table ladder.

Saddleworth have been hitting some decent form over the past few weeks with a win against Waterhead and only losing to table topping Newton Storm by 4 points last week.

The Riversiders raced into a 28-0 lead within the first 20 minutes and never looked back. Up 38-10 at half time it was pleased to see the pressure increase in the second half and no tries conceded, with a further 38 scored.

MOM was Simon Atherton.
RESULT: Eccleston Lions 36 Riversiders 6
A tough away fixture left the Riversiders soul searching after performing well in spells. With a number of players picking up injuries early into the game it was always going to be a up hill battle against a decent looking Eccleston side.

The Riversiders only try came from Damian Hayton who took an interception pass and ran 80 metres.
GAME: NWML Div 4 Game 5 - Riversiders v Burtonwood Bridge
This week see's the visit of Burtonwood Bridge to Parsons Meadow in the Wigan Riversiders 5th game on the season.

The sides met in last seasons interim league with the Riversiders taking the game in the final minutes 26-24.

Last weeks 16-16 draw against Pilkington Recs will hopfuly give the Riversiders the boost they need to start climbing the league table.

Training is 645pm on Wednesday at the Soccerdome pitches. Coach Mayo will name his 17 after training.
RESULT: Pilkington Recs A 16 Wigan Riversiders 16
The Riversiders came up with there second draw in as many games when they travelled to St Helens to face Pilkington Recs A.

The Riversiders can take pride in there best team performance of the season so far and will be hoping to use this as a catalyst to move on with the season.

Up next....Burtonwood Bridge at home on Saturday 23rd June.
GAME: NWML Div 4 Game 4 - Riversiders v Accrington Panthers
This weekend sees the high flying lead leaders Accrington Panthers visit Parsons Meadow, both teams are going into the game on different form, Accrington are yet to taste defeat in 2012, and although the Riversiders have played 2 less games, they are currently at the wrong end of the table after picking up just one point from 3 games.

Coach Mayo has had strong words with his team and is looking for an immediate turn around starting this weekend.

Team:

1Craig Lucas 2.Dan Parkinson 3.Rich Mcleod 4.Tom Hilton 5.Damian Hayton 6.Greg Brown 7.Craig Johnson 8.David Baybutt 9.Rob Dunn 10.Gaz Wilkinson 11.Craig Hogan 12.Phil Wadsley 13.Gaz Edwards 14.Will Koller 15.Ste Lowe 16.Ian Halley 17.Ben Grundy

Meet time at St Judes is NO LATER than 1230. As we are short on coaching staff this weekend, your help in getting down early and setting up is appreciated.

Kick Off is 1400

Lets get heads on from the off and start our season this weekend.
GAME: NWML Div 4 Game 3 - Riversiders v Folly Lane A
The Riversiders welcome Swinton based outfit Folly Lane A to Parsons Meadow this weekend in search of the first league victory for both teams.

The Riversiders have headed back to the training field over the past few weeks to try and put right the early disapointments of the season so far. The fixtures have been kind and have gave the Riversiders a break that they needed after what could be considers a tough and packed pre season.

By game day it will almost be a full month since the Riversiders last league game back on the 28th April. Bank holiday breaks and fixture cancellations have added to an already quiet start to life in Division 4.

Training this week is an important one, all players wishing to be in line for selection this weekend get down Wednesday for a 645 start at Wigan St Judes, we currently train on the football pitches over the bridge at the back of the Rugby pitches.

Coach Mayo will name his 17 on Wednesday.
Site Updates
We unfortunately over the past few weeks have been unable to update the site with match details, news to the level that we would like. But we are pleased to say we are back in action!

RESULT: Wigan Bulldogs 20 Wigan Riversiders 22
The Riversiders continued in winning ways, but only just against a gritty and determined Bulldogs side.

After only 10 minutes of the game the Riversiders saw themselves 16-0 up after tries from Greg Brown, Craig Hogan and Mike West on debut.

For the next 50 minutes of the game it was all about the Bulldogs, it has to be said with help from the Riversiders, dropped ball, penalties kept on giving the Bulldogs field position and it didnt take them long to smell an upset.

With 10 left on the clock, the Riversiders found themselves behind 20-16 after a great comback from the Bulldogs, the cause was not helped after Mike West has to leave the field with a suspected broken jaw and Craig Johnson was sin-binned after exchanging words with the match official.

The Riversiders took the game after a mistake from the Bulldogs full back, loose forward Gavin Hurst was the quickest to reacte to a loose ball and raced under the sticks to give the Riversider a 22-20 victory.

Coach Mayo was rightly unhappy with the overall performance after the first 10 minutes. But did take positives from the way some things from the training pitch where executed well on the field.

Training continues this Wednesday, 645 at Wigan St Judes, the next game will be the road trip to Northampton on the 14th April.
